Frank Rijkaard has named the same 18-man squad that travelled to Germany, for tomorrow evening’s league game at home to Getafe (kick off 9pm). With Ronaldinho out for six weeks and Deco still not recovered from his injury problems there were only 19 first team players fit, and Santi Ezquerro was the player Rijkaard chose to leave out.
Getafe arrive in high spirits after grabbing a well deserved 1-1 draw at Bayern Munich in the Uefa Cup on Thursday, but they have had little time to prepare for tomorrow’s game. Coach Michael Laudrup will probably make some changes to the team, and he will definitely be without the goalscorer in Germany, Cosmin Contra, who is suspended for the game. Barça will have bad memories of Nigerian striker Ikechukwu Uche who gave the Barça back four such a hard time in Getafe’s 2-0 win in November. Despite excellent form in the Uefa Cup and Copa del Rey, Getafe have not been great in the league this season but they proved they can cause a surprise by winning 0-1 in the Bernabeu at the end of February. They currently sit 12th in the table on 39 points.
Frank Rijkaard will play much the same team that won against Schalke but with Rafa Marquez fit again he may decide to give a rest to either Gabi Milito or Toure Yaya, neither of whom is 100% fit. Sylvinho also deserves another start at left back where Eric Abidal has been off form recently. Barça will be putting their hopes on more goals from teenage striker Bojan Krkic who has scored five in his last five appearances. Barça must not forget that the three points are still vital despite being seven points behind leaders Real Madrid. With Madrid’s erratic form there is still an outside chance of snatching the title, and it is also extremely important to finish above Villarreal who last week moved past Barça into second place. If Barça finish outside the top two then the plans for the preseason will have to be rearranged.
Last season Barça won this game 1-0 with an early goal from Ronaldinho. It was a tense game near the end of the season and Ronaldinho was sent off before half time. It took a brave performance from Barça to hold on and Leo Messi was on particularly fine form that day.
Barça’s 18-man squad: Valdés, Pinto, Zambrotta, Thuram, Puyol, Marquez, Milito, Sylvinho, Abidal, Xavi, Edmilson, Toure, Iniesta, Gudjohnsen, Giovani, Bojan, Eto’o, Henry.
Possible starting XI: Valdés; Zambrotta, Puyol, Milito, Sylvinho; Xavi, Marquez, Iniesta; Eto’o, Bojan, Henry.
My Prediction: Barça 2 Getafe 0

I hate Getafe. I really do ! Always a pain ! Last session they cosed us the the league & the cup. Sure Frank is also responsible. But still if Getafe was out of the equation. Ronnie wouldn’t have take the red card, therefore he would have played RCD Espanyol. And we would have won. If you guys remember it was 10 min that lost us the league last year.

Oh my God!
Mallorca just tied Madrid 1-1 thanks to a fabolous finish by valero. Could have won it if Guiza wasnt so horrible.
La Liga is too crazy.
This should be an added incentive for them to win now.

2-1 hopefully, Madrid slipped up tonight….. again.
e10 // Apr 6, 2008 at 4:20
Barca has a terrible record against Getafe, But at the camp nou Barca are solid and should run away with this one with ease.
Madrid have slipped up and this is the time to cut back down the points to 4.
Barca 3 - 0 Getafe

This night when I went to sleep I had a strange dream. In that dream Barca have beaten Getafe 3-2, two goals scored by Bojan and one by Eto’o.

Sylvinho for Abidal is a welcome change.
Shahenshah // Apr 6, 2008 at 19:49
yeee Sevilla is winning 2-0 with two minutes left to go. The scoreline should have been 5-0 but thats okay, Villareal lost.
Now is Barcelona’s chance to not only catch up to madrid but to overtake villareal and take second spot as well.
Forza Barca
Joe Henry // Apr 6, 2008 at 20:56
Half time and we still need to attack more !
Shahenshah // Apr 6, 2008 at 21:38
they have hit the post three times! And a penalty denied!
Come on 20 minutes left.
Shahenshah // Apr 6, 2008 at 21:41
Damn Barcelona is playing a 4-4-2 formation…………….lol not the way normal teams do though.
Joe Henry // Apr 6, 2008 at 22:01
Nothing new from my dear Franky ! I’m not mad or angry any more i really expected it ! We wont win anything till Frank leaves ! So if any of you can deal with that so be it if not then don’t cheer for Barca any more. As for me I will cheer knowing that we will not win anything till he leaves the Camp Nou
FCB // Apr 6, 2008 at 22:02
getafe really wanted to win that…i think barca should start to concentrate on CL only…they will always have the league next yr.
Shahenshah // Apr 6, 2008 at 22:04
Well look at this way…..we reclaimed the second position on goal difference.
Joe Henry // Apr 6, 2008 at 22:08
No offense to you Shahenshah but the only way I see it is that my team should be the top of the league by a huge difference. In the cup final. Won In Germany 4-0 yet non of that is accomplished. We won in Germany by a narrow escape. Sorry I refuse to see the sliver lining. At this point its either Frank goes and Glory come or the other way around.
morzzan // Apr 6, 2008 at 22:08
wow Joe Henry, how is it Rijkaard’s fault that the players failed to score? The team played an excellent match and definitely deserved 3 points. I feel it is just stupid that certain people just blame either Rijkaard or Valdes following a barca performance. This is pretty pathetic, I know you are frustrated but why, why on earth blame Rijkaard. Like some members pointed out last week, “he wasnt shouting at the players”, today he was, He was out there the entire time. what difference did it make? Did it make them score, no. You have to understand that its ultimately the players who need to do the last bit, not Rijkaard!
Youssef Gazia // Apr 6, 2008 at 22:12
I agree 100% with you morzzan! Finally someone who understands me.
FCB // Apr 6, 2008 at 22:13
morzzan—- i totally agree with u…i dont get how it was rijkaards fault we hit the post 3 times…we just need to be better in front of goal.
FCB // Apr 6, 2008 at 22:14
lol we all agree with eachother now!!
Joe Henry // Apr 6, 2008 at 22:14
Morzzan. I am really tired of excuses for not winning. If you want to defend Frank give me a good explanation why we really lost. In my point of view such games need an attacking midfielder ( such as Ronnie ). So Eto or Bojan should have played in that position tonight instead of wingmen. Frank is a good couch he is just not doing his job. Sorry you guys , sadly i was only happy in the end of the game when the white flags where up saying leave Frank.
FCB // Apr 6, 2008 at 22:15
timeout!! y cant the excuse for not winning be that the players have trouble finishing in front of goal?? y does the excuse have to be rijkaard?
Joe Henry // Apr 6, 2008 at 22:15
All thou the subs actions where I must say Excellent calls I must say also say !
Joe Henry // Apr 6, 2008 at 22:19
You guys are attacking me as if Frank was A+ the last games. Yes if this was a game where Barca is on top of league and playing good I would have said nice game. But we need this win. I’m not saying Frank was bad tonight. I’m saying he is the resone that we are losing every thing as a sum up!
blaugranaboy // Apr 6, 2008 at 22:20
really people, this wasnt frank’s fault at all today. glad to see some people can see that. it was actually great seeing him standing up and speaking to the players. you could see geniune effort and frustration. its the players fault for not finishing and scoring. some good keeping and the post helped. some players tried very hard (zambrotta, puyol, xavi) but again, Henry disappoints and Giovanni seems to be arrogant, im not impressed with him.
morzzan // Apr 6, 2008 at 22:22
HAHA, what a joke u are man!! Barca played brilliant, absolutely fantastic. They didnt give shit to Getafe, hardly 3 chances on goal for each of the three times Barca hit the bar. We didnt lose, lady luck just did not help us today. Tell me one player who performed bad;y today! All of them were brilliant, absolutely brilliant. Attacking mid, Ronnie, man u need to read the news. He is out for 6 weeks, besides Barca have a better player in the name of Andres Iniesta iin the same position, playing better than Ronnie would today! And if he did start Ronnie, I am sure, you would be the first one asking qs as to why he was started.
Ok, if barca had played and lost miserably then I would understand your critiques about the formation, but they played brilliant, attack was simply superb and the defense was tight, the forwards hit the bar 3 times, What more could you ask for? Which one of these wasnt Rijkaard responsible for?
Joe Henry // Apr 6, 2008 at 22:22
If tonight was a normal game I would agree. Frank did a good job tonight. But that doesn’t cut it that is all what I’m saying ! And concering that point if the best of Frank is a DRAW ! Then no thank you I need a couch that can win the game don’t you think.
morzzan // Apr 6, 2008 at 22:25
Dude, why cant you see that Rijkaard was not to blame!!!!! Today was just not our day, lady luck wasnt on barca’s side.
FCB // Apr 6, 2008 at 22:25
Joe Henry– its coach. couch is the thing u sit on
morzzan // Apr 6, 2008 at 22:26
FCB score
Joe Henry // Apr 6, 2008 at 22:27
Morzzan a simple question I as you ! Is this Barca’s best ? If your answer is yes then I will say sorry to my posts. If no then we should have won and I’m right. Yes i read the news that is why i said Eto or Bojan. If this is the best of my team I would be happy as hell as i said in an earlier post some where back. In this team are best players in the world don’t come and tell me that we can’t win and luck. Yet I will say it again Frank did a great job tonight. We didn’t win it wasn’t his fault for TONIGHT. But still we ended in a draw
John // Apr 6, 2008 at 22:29
Good we were so predictable!!!! just another example of how badly things have slipped in the last 18 months!! no ideas, no invention… it will get a lot worse before it gets better…. Man Utd await us if we get a result in the week… The problem is iIhave no faith in the board to make the tough decsions that are required…
FCB // Apr 6, 2008 at 22:31
i think we will beat man united…just have this feeling
Joe Henry // Apr 6, 2008 at 22:32
FCB your 100% correct the problem with Barca is my bad spelling problem your 100% correct. OK I AM A BAD SPELLER. Happy Now back to barca
John // Apr 6, 2008 at 22:34
FCB… I wish I could share you optimism!! ;0) I fear we will go out and go out badly…
morzzan // Apr 6, 2008 at 22:36
So Joes Henry, who are you blaming now? First Rijkaard, now who?
Yes, today simply proved how good we can get! Today was the pinnacle of attacking football and also proved how important the luck factor is. Getafe were absolutely pinned down today, they did not have anything, nothing at all. Man United I feel, will be a different story, but united are extremely strong to say the least. Their dressing room atmosphere is so different than ours, they are first in England, favs to win the CL. All i can say is it wont be easy at all
Frede // Apr 6, 2008 at 22:37
There goes the trophy. There goes Rijkaard. There goes the last remaining spirit.
This i by far the most uninspired offensive approach i’ve seen this season -
just as i thought this couldn’t get any worse.
Yesterday, Neeskens said this: “All our remaining games are finals”.
Yeah right, Neeskens. Is this the way you would play the CL-final`? I hope not.
Shahenshah // Apr 6, 2008 at 22:38
I dont understand this. We lose, blame rijkaard. We tie and despite a good performance by the team, we still blame rijkaard. We win, credit doesnt go to Rijkaard but to the quality players we have. Hell if we didnt have those players, Rijkaard would have buried us 6 feet deep.
Is it just me or is Rijkaard being treated the same way grant is by Chelsea fans?
FCB // Apr 6, 2008 at 22:38
im just trying to correct u. i wish the problem with barca was ur spelling only but too bad thats not the case
Joe Henry // Apr 6, 2008 at 22:39
I agree with John. Manchester United is an extremely hard team to just win. Can we do it as a team, 100% yes . I Just don’t see it this session . And don’t forget we are not there yet nor is Manchester United. Last year, you guys remember Getafe in the cup we all figured the cup is ours. We lost 4-0.
morzzan // Apr 6, 2008 at 22:39
FCB score again!!!
Frede // Apr 6, 2008 at 22:41
Rijkaard did OK today - at least he reacted in between the two halfs. But it is still his duty to pick up the team, kick some spirit into their lazy buts and fight for every game.
The only possitive aspect of tonights game is Giovani. Is was nice to finally see him being a bit like Messi.
Joe Henry // Apr 6, 2008 at 22:43
Morzzan , A- Where on the same side before this goes any further I would like to say sorry if I offend you as I tend to do that some times. B- I am just saying i want to win tonight Barca played good but not good to win when we could have with all these stars in the filed. WE CAN WIN ! Frank was good tonight but we needed to win. I have no idea where the change is needed as for tonight but for starters Henry should hit the bench he sucked ! To Frank all I’m saying that i want him to work harder for us to win.
bobby // Apr 6, 2008 at 22:43
barca did a o.k job only that we have to fix our goal problem and well be fine for the schalke game and in the back we have to watch out more!!!!!! but good job gio
Shahenshah // Apr 6, 2008 at 22:45
@ Frede
I know eh. His performance was so much better than previous ones. Glad to see some improvement. Didnt lose the ball much, made the right passes instead of hogging the ball and hit the post.
Winterhunt // Apr 6, 2008 at 22:53
Well, La Liga is now over and done with…..
Shahenshah, I think you are on the money with the Grant / Rijkaard comparison only that Grant has no success to fall back on…. still the effect seems so similar in it’s disheartening aspect….. to see two teams that were arguably the most feared (along with Man U, thoough I’m loathe to admit it) become some toothless is just sad….. I think we are worse off though as I far prefer our roster to their’s…… This is just so depressing when I think how many hours I devote to this team……. I AM SO SICK OF EXCUSES AND JUSTIFICATIONS…… To Me Laporta’s job is to bring in the best coach that will give the fans, who give so much of themselves and hearts over to this team, something to be proud of…. now we have weeks and weeks of Schuster gloating with his mediocre overpriced crew, while we struggle to stay in secnd place with in my opinion the best roster on the planet….. and then the arrogance of Laporta to take a veiled shot at Mourninho with that comment about certain individuals coaching styles….. How about winning for a change???? It’s all well and good that we are flush with cash for the transfer market but if the team cannot be organized into a cohesive unit hungry to win, spending that money is like pouring water into the desert…….
Joe Henry // Apr 6, 2008 at 22:55
I am with Winterhunt 100%
blaugranaboy // Apr 6, 2008 at 23:25
nice comment winterhunt. the water into a desert thing was solid. im also very very very sick of excuses and trying to explain the problem. im prob not gonna make many comments about the team this year. i accept they are a mess and only next year can things really properly change. at times this year i have been thought sacking frank and bringing in jose is correct. but i believe in continuity and building an era. look at the most successful teams of the last 12 years or so. United (one of the clubs i have hated most) have had Ferguson for 21 years, and a few years back when Chelsea was winning everyone wanted him sacked, but they stayed faitful and he has paid them back. Ancelloti and Milan has been under pressure a few years, and gotten them 2 CL. When Del Bosque was at Madrid, almost nobody c0uld beat them, then they fired him, and shit hit the fan.
i think the main thing is dressing room atmosphere. the unity and happiness in this team is gone. i really think that is the primary problem. i honestly believe getting rid of deco and roni could bring about big change. their general disrespect for the team, rijkaard, and putting in any effort at all could be killing us like a cancer. anyone think this is possible???? next year we need to move on and fill the team with WINNERS. players that firstly have the heart and drive to win and play for their teammates. thats what is lacking this year. and even those that remain with this spirit (bojan, puyol, xavi, and a few others) it must be very hard being the only ones, then ur spirit gets diminished. someone mentioned before how man u have such a great spirit, and thats true, and a reason for them doing so well. when we had our glory years, everyone was smiling, laughing, joking, loving their game. that needs to be restored. we dont need to dip in the market too much. a defender or two and a diego (i wish). upfront, id be all for selling henry and replacing him with drogba, but i dont see that happening.
everyone here, i feel your pain. really i do. but i just cant keep letting this current year team into tricking me into believing in them. im going to sit back, watch this season, expect the worse and but maybe be suprised at some point.
