Waw, what an impact my vote had. Just before it was: 2. Real liga: 25%, 3. FCB news 20%. After my vote, both had 24%.

Your problem could be that there are three barça blogs and only one madrid blog, so the barça votes will probably split up. Así, así, así… ;-)

Goal.com rumours barça have signed ezeqiel garay from santander in the summer, probably a direct replacement for thuram, ill get voting

Nic is true… ”Barcelona Grab Ezequiel Garay”..??!!

    • Nic // Feb 6, 2008 at 15:37

The story on Garay comes from declarations from the Racing Santander president last night on Catalunya radio. He said that he had talked to Laporta about the possibility and that Barça were well positioned to sign him. He also said that the get-out clause in Garay’s contract was for €20M. So make what you will, but I would say he hasn’t signed yet.
Thanks for the votes people. Keep ‘em coming in!

You owe me one, Nic, I’m manipulatig the whole voting system… *angel face* Or am I just desperately looking for a free drink here… *double angel face* ?

The Garay story. The rumours started last week in the catalan papers cause there was a meeting between the two presidents. Now Marca makes it their ‘exclusive’ story and says Barça “robbed” Garay away from Madrid. They claim Txiki has signed the deal a few days ago (five years, transfer price: 14,2 million euro). Mundo Deportio today says he’s the first option to replace Thuram. And Sport quotes the Santander president as saying that there have been contacts with Barça directors and that he would be surprised if Garay doesn’t end up playing for Barcelona although nothing has been signed yet.

I didn’t see the player in action enough to make a valid judgment, although I think we have other priorities for the moment than a central defender.

By far the best blog in this whole wide world. Good Luck Nic.

About the Garay topic, I dont see him having a regular first team place at Barca. The only chance of him being in our starting 11 is if Poyol or Milito leave, which is very unlikly.

I would like to see you comment on the Olegear topic. He said ‘i might leave Barca’. My only quesztion is why is Barca holding on him for so long? And I heared that Olegear is involed in politics. Is that true?

    • Mirnes // Feb 7, 2008 at 0:15

Congratulationes…I cast my vote to U…the best fcb blog….

    • blaugranafan // Feb 7, 2008 at 2:07

Yo voté! It’s well deserved, Nic.

Re: Garay, I feel like he’ll be a rotation player, and the club will groom him with hopes he’ll be a regular in the future. I haven’t seen any clips of his free kicks yet, but I hear he’s good at those, and we’ll need someone to fill the back-up-set-piece-taker role if and when Deco leaves.

    • Nic // Feb 7, 2008 at 3:04

Oleguer has made some political statements in the past but has been quite quiet recently. I don’t have a problem with players holding political opinions but I’d rather not comment as I would rather not mix sport with politics on this blog (or rather I’m not in the mood right now). On the playing side I think he was promising as a youngster but has not developed enough to represent a team of Barça’s level. We shall see whether he stays or nor, or whether politics plays a role in that.

As for Garay I can’t say I’ve noticed him enough to rate him or not. But I will say that buying a central defender is a good idea as Oleguer is not good enough and Thuram is 36 now and can’t go on much longer at this level.

    • Jan // Feb 7, 2008 at 9:09

About Oleguer the player. I think you can keep the guy as a substitute cause he doesn’t create problems and he doesn’t cost much. And you can discuss his skills, but the fact is that he was a regular when barça played the best football we had on this planet since the start of the new millenium (january 2004-june 2006), so he apparently wasn’t an obstacle to that.

About Oleguer the person. He’s very much involved in politics, being a left wing Catalan nationalist. Last season Kelme broke up the sponsor deal after he wrote an opinion on a basque prisoner. Now he has a deal with Diadora, giving all the money he gets from it to charity.
