Frank Rijkaard’s job has become that little bit more difficult with the news that neither Zambrotta nor Bojan will be fit for Saturday’s tough match at Sevilla. Zambrotta suffered an injury to his middle adductor muscle in his right leg in Italy’s 3-1 victory over Portugal and is likely to be out for a week. Bojan has been set a special treatment programme to help him recover from his gastroenteritis and he is expected to rejoin the group for training next week.
While Bojan has everything to become a real star, I am more worried about losing Zambrotta. With Puyol out injured the only cover at right back is Oleguer who hasn’t played a full game since October. I hope Oleguer can prove me wrong and rise to the challenge, and I should make clear that I don’t think he is a bad player at all, it’s just that I don’t rate him as highly as our other defenders.
There was some good news today. According to El Sport, Carles Puyol is recovering faster than expected from his injury, and he has set his sights on getting back for the Champions League game at Celtic on February 20. Please all pray to whatever God you may have that he makes it in time.
Lastly for now a mention that Mexico drew 2-2 with the USA last night. Rafa Marquez played the 90 minutes and Giovani dos Santos came on as a substitute in the 71st minute. No injuries were reported.

This game is going to be tough! The loss of Zambrotta, along with Puyol and Marquez is going to kill us! If we had Etoo and Yaya then I would say we should win this because those two players really solidify our team. Yaya in the middle gives us a strength and aggression that we dont get from anybody else and nobody, not even the great Henry, can replace Eto’o up front. He really is the best striker for Barca. As much as I love Messi, Eto’o gives us that killer instinct that we need.
I think this could be the defining game of our season in the league. If we can win this game, in the state our squad is in, then I think we can win the league. If we lose it, its gonna be very hard to come back, not just points wise but mentally.

Sylvinho and Deco are out too. Added to Puyol, Bojan, Zambrotta, Jorquera and Ezquerro. And Touré and Eto’o. That’s almost a whole team. Rijkaard will have to puzzle. Couldn’t Thuram be an option on the right back? He started there (like Puyol) and won the World Cup with France playing that position.
