Bojan Wins It For Spain But Will Miss Final

September 5th, 2007 by Nic · No Comments

Bojan Krkic’s goal in the 116th minute was enough to give Spain a 2-1 victory over Ghana in the Under-17s World Cup Semi Final in Korea. However, in the last minute of extra time Bojan saw his second yellow card of the game for preventing Ghana from taking a free kick and will therefore miss Sunday’s final where Spain will play the winners of Germany and Nigeria.

In a very even match Spain took the lead after 67 minutes when Barça’s Iago Falque escaped down the left before setting up Aquino to score. Ghana equalised with just over ten minutes of normal time when the wonderfully named Sadick Adams fired home. Bojan’s best effort came just before half time when he had a header cleared off the line.

In extra time Spain looked the more likely to score and Bojan caused the Ghana defence quite a few problems. With only four minutes left on the clock Bojan won a free kick on the edge of the right side of the penalty area. In a what seemed like a well practiced free kick, Fran Merida cut the ball back to the unmarked Bojan who shot through a crowd of players into the net.

In the last minute of the match Bojan tangled with a Ghanaian as he tried to take a quick free kick and the ref decided it was worth a yellow card, sadly for Spain and Bojan it was his second of the game and he was sent off. At the full time whistle a furious Bojan remonstrated with the referee and his team mates had to pull him away.
