Keita Stars For Mali

June 23rd, 2008 by Nic · 7 Comments

It was a good weekend for two of Barça’s African players. On Saturday Samuel Eto’o scored both goals including a last minute winner in Cameroon’s 2-1 victory over Tanzania, while yesterday Seydou Keita scored twice in Mali’s 3-0 win over Sudan. Both Cameroon and Mali lead their respective qualifying groups for the 2010 World Cup.

Not Euro 2008

June 15th, 2008 by Nic · 10 Comments

I am aware that not all readers will be as interested in Euro 2008 as others, so I’m pleased to remind you that some of our non-European players are still in action for their countries in World Cup 2010 qualifiers. New signing Martin Caceres played 90 minutes for Uruguay in a 1-1 draw at home […]

Samuel Eto’o may be on his way out of Barça but he is still scoring goals for Cameroon. The Indomitable Lions cruised to a 0-3 win over Mauritius in a World Cup 2010 qualifier yesterday and Eto’o scored the second goal. Cameroon are now top of the group with six points from two games. Last […]

Samuel Eto’o was involved in an incident yesterday which apparently ended with him headbutting a journalist. Eto’o is with the Cameroon national team preparing for a friendly with Cape Verde. At yesterday’s press conference the reporters staged a protest because the Cameroon football federation gave limited access to training sessions. Apparently, insults were exchanged between footballers and […]

May 27th, 2008 by Nic · 11 Comments

While only 17% of fans think Samuel Eto’o should be sold without question, only 37% think we should keep him at all costs. A total of 46% say they would sell him if the price was right and we had a good replacement. Unfortunately it seems that Eto’o will probably be leaving and we don’t […]

Eto’o Fined For Anti-Madridista Celebration

February 16th, 2008 by Nic · 9 Comments

Samuel Eto’o has been fined €12,000 by the Real Federacion Española de Futbol (RFEF) for his celebration after Barça won La Liga in 2005. Eto’o chanted “Madrid cabron saluda al campeon” which is one of the favourite chants here from the fans when Barça win anything. Literally translated it means “Madrid, bastard, salute the champion” […]

Thursday’s Bits And Bobs

February 14th, 2008 by Nic · 6 Comments

Just a quick roundup of today’s news, I’ve had a long day at work and I ought to think about taking out my better half tonight. First story is that Barça have signed a 14-year-old wonderkid called Mauro Icardi. Born in Argentina but with an Italian passport, Mauro has played for the Canary Island team UD […]

Another day passes and Samuel Eto’o is still not back in Barcelona. It now seems impossible that he will play in Zaragoza on Saturday. The fault, however, is not […]

Egypt End Eto’o’s Dream

February 10th, 2008 by Nic · 7 Comments

It wasn’t to be for Samuel Eto’o and Cameroon who lost 1-0 to Egypt in the African Cup Of Nations final today in Accra. Egypt were deserved winners and scored the only goal of the game when Abou Trika made the most of a dreadful defensive mistake by Rigobert Song. Eto’o only had a couple […]
