Celtic Bhoys Hit Barcelona

March 3rd, 2008 by Nic · 9 Comments

I noticed a few in town yesterday, but today Celtic fans are arriving in Barcelona by the thousands. This morning Camp Nou was swamped when tickets went on sale but for Celtic fans they have the problem that to buy one you need to show a passport or ID card that is not British or Irish. The bhoys  are in the hunt to find a friendly local who will buy a ticket for them.

Some Celtic fans have organised a campaign to clear up their own litter in an attempt to distance themselves from Rangers who were criticised for the mess they left behind. Bags bearing the message “Celtic fans keeping Barcelona beautiful” both in English and Catalan are being handed out to fans to collect their rubbish. The Barcelona council have declared that drinking, buying or selling alcohol in the street can face a fine of between €750 and €3,000, however, I cannot see them really trying to enforce this. According to El Pais the local police have also done their bit by making a raid on 20,000 cans of beer in the centre of town which were presumably intended for illegal sale on the streets. Tomorrow, the Celtic meeting point will be in operation, reports say they have prepared 1,200 litres of beer. I reckon if the Celtic fans go there, the beer will be finished in under an hour. So far there have been no reports of any problems from the fans. Here’s a few more photos I’ve found in the press:

Blaugrana - I don’t see why you should have any problems. Tickets for games are only difficult to get for the really big games, but if you are going to pay to come all the way from Namibia it might be worth even paying agency prices. All depends on your finances. If you have any more questions send me an email.

Why is it hard for celtic fans to get tickets?

To the Celtic Fans going to BCN - hope you are made as welcome as I was in Glasgow. I was given a scarf, received numerous hand shakes and pats on the back. In the Pub before the game I was the only Barca shirt in a sea off green and white and was made to feel very welcome… I hope that good will and a marvellous sporting occasion prevail… and of course a Barca win ;-)

When I was in Barcelona for Rangers game I think I was the only one who was in Barca shirt before the match. I thought that Rangers fans are going to beat me up but they just shook my hand saying that they respect me. :)
