Barça’s medical team have confirmed Leo Messi’s injury to his left thigh (torn biceps femoris muscle), and have estimated the period of recuperation as “about six weeks”. This means Messi will miss the Champions League quarter finals but should be ok to play in the semi finals if Barça get through.

Its really bad news. But the team should be able to back him, by getting into semi

so, so sad….. I hope he won’t be plagued by these injuries his whole career…. This is hard to take to see such an amazing talent so often injured……

This is bad. I don’t like Dos Santos and he won’t replace Messi. This injury can be lethal for us.

As fans, I think we can all learn from this. We should understand that we do not always have the full picture of why a player is rested or played, and therefore we should hold back before calling the coach an idiot. Also, we should always keep in mind that the aim of the press is not primarily to keep the public informed of the truth: it is to sell papers and make money.

This is so sad, Messi without a doubt is Barca’s best player and the best player in the world right now.
When is the next tie in the Champions league?
I wish Henry will start playing to his potential because right now he is weakest link in Barca’s attack.

But maybe Messi was rested in the game vs Atletico just because of the rotation system, not because he was injured.

Taras - he wasn’t injured but they knew there was a risk. Sometimes the risk pays off sometimes it doesn’t. This sort of thing happens all the time, Deco got injured after he played on after “feeling something” Anyone who plays sport will know sometimes you feel a slight twinge and you can take it as a warning or not. Often you can play on and you are fine, occasionally you end up regretting a more serious injury. If players went off every time they felt a twinge we would need to allow more than three substitutions a game.

Nic, you are right, but then Rijkaard would better wait until the Villareal game to see if Messi can play without a risk. As I said, this injury can be lethal.

It was worrying to see him cry so badly .
I wonder if it is because he is so eager to make his mark on the stage and get some medals under his belt .. especially with all competition for position and because there is all this optimism, especially nationally.
I hope he goes into recovery with a more positive mentality. I mean he is a fighter on the field so i am sure that was just an outburst of emotion, especially when he knew he was one of the top scorers of the competition.

Dos Santos is really good. We are asking too much from him in his first season. Remember in the first season we all thought messi cannot get power behind his shot. The only difference is that Messi debuted when the team was on a high and Santos dubut came when the team was going through a tough phase.

I’m not saying that Dos Santos is a bad player, but he doesn’t think much about the team. All the matches I saw with him he didn’t give passes to his teammates, he was just dribbling and losing the ball. I’m not saying that he must not dribble but he does that to much. I also read some of his interviews where he was only speaking about himself. So I don’t like his personality.

The difficulty for Dos Santos is that he enters a team that is not in great shape, so he isn’t lifted up to a higher level by the team (which was the case when Messi appeared). I anyhow think it’s still too early to judge on him, give the boy some more time.
