Edmilson Gets Medical Clearance To Play

December 21st, 2007 by Nic · 3 Comments

Jose Edmilson who has been sidelined since his knee operation in June, has received the all clear to play again. The Brazilian had suffered problems with his knee ever since he was injured back in October 2004 in a game against Numancia. Edmilson has been training with his teammates for the last couple of weeks to get back to match fitness.

The 31-year-old midfielder finishes his contract next summer and has been linked with a move to Newcastle. There were suggestions that Edmilson could move to England in the winter transfer window, but with Toure Yaya leaving to play in the African Cup Edmilson will be a natural replacement as a defensive midfielder and Rijkaard is unlikely to let him go.

Many fans seem to have written off Edmilson after a below-par season in 2006/7, but it is important to remember he was carrying an injury. I would love to see him regain his previous form and show everyone that he could still have a future at Barça, but it will be very difficult for him to compete with Toure who is having an excellent first season at Barça.

is Yaya Toure any relation to kolo? this blog is identical to nufcblog… how many of these things are around?

Yaya is Kolo’s younger brother. I understand that nufcblog was also assisted by Ahmed at Soccerlens.com which may explain the similarities in the look. I have no idea how many football blogs there are, but in my totally unbiased opinion Fcbnews and Nufcblog are among the best ;-)

If Txiki doesn’t buy anyone this January then it would be a mistake to sell Edmilson. Not just because of Yaya’s absence due to the ACN but IMO we should play with two DMs in Europe against tough opponents.

Although, I guess our complete future depends upon what happens this Sunday.
