2007 was not a great year for Barça and we are all feeling pretty lousy since losing to Real Mierda last week. Nevertheless, life goes on and as we are reaching the end of the year I thought it would be appropriate to have an awards thing in order to look back at the best, and in some cases worst, of the year.
Best Player Of 2007: There were only two candidates for this award, Andres Iniesta and Leo Messi. Iniesta has been fantastic all year, playing in various different positions and performing consistently well in all of them. He seems to get better every year and hopefully he will be around for a long long time. However, the genius that is Leo Messi has to win this award. There have been a number of great players at Barça in recent years and Messi is as good as any of them. Still only twenty years old, he has the potential to be the greatest ever if he can keep his feet on the ground and avoid getting injured so often.
Best Goal Of 2007: Again, there can only really be one winner here. Eto’o’s second at Valencia last week was a great team goal, while Messi’s third against Madrid and Ronaldinho’s free kick against Athletic Bilbao also deserve a mention. However, Messi’s goal against Getafe in the Copa del Rey will be remembered for decades. Click here to enjoy it again
Best Team Performance of 2007: The 0-6 win at Atletico Madrid was a good performance but I feel the result was a bit deceptive as Barça seemed to score from every chance they had. For me the best all round performance was the 4-1 home win over Zaragoza. A great display of attacking football with an irresistable Messi and an excellent performance from Iniesta. Click here to see the goals
Worst Team Performance of 2007: This should probably be the 4-0 defeat at Getafe in the cup, but as the cup is a second rate competition I don’t count it. For me the worst showing of 2007 was back in January and the 3-1 defeat at Espanyol. Being so easily outplayed by our inferior local rivals had me banging my head against the wall. Valdés saved us from a rout.
Best Individual Performance of 2007: Please don’t think I am biased but this is just a question of which of Messi’s performances was best. He was great against Getafe in both the cup and the league game at Camp Nou. He was immense against Zaragoza, but for the importance of the game it has to be Messi against Madrid at Camp Nou. How we missed him last week. Watch his hat trick again here
Best Signing of 2007: Ha ha, one that Leo can’t win. There are four contenders for this one, but unfortunately Thierry Henry has been disappointing. Gabi Milito and Eric Abidal have both helped to improve the defence this season but the one who stands out as the best signing is Toure Yaya who came for the bargain price of €9 million and has been very impressive so far.
Best Moment of 2007: For me this has to be Messi’s third against Madrid. Unfortunately we all have recent experience of how much a defeat against them hurts. Back in March, when we were down to ten men, Leo popped up in injury time for a brilliantly equalizer to turn our sorrow to joy.
Worst Moment of 2007: Sorry to remind you all, but last week’s defeat was nothing compared to the feeling when Tamudo equalized at Camp Nou. The less said the better.
Most Exciting Game of 2007: This has to be the 3-3 draw with Madrid again. Coming from behind three times was fantastic drama, and we played the entire second half with only ten men after Oleguer’s sending off. If only the ref had blown for the penalty on Ronaldinho in the last minute.
Most Boring Game of 2007: You have probably all forgotten it but the 0-0 draw at Osasuna in September was truly awful.
So, there you have it. Feel free to send your opinions; you may even have some categories of your own.
Wishing you all a happy 2008.

And I don’t think I am biased, I just say what I see. Messi’s only won two out of four of my player of the month awards.

Maybe a little biased toward Messi I have to admit but in all honesty without Messi, there are no stand out performers in this Barca side so far this season / this year. Yes the team has played remarkably well during some games but as far as who has played at his best the most amount of times, it has to be Messi
I get the feeling though it will be Henry’s year and he will finally shine. I was dissapointed he did come on against Real as Gio is crap and Bojan too young, so that game had his name written all over it (Are we ever gonna see Titi and Eto’o togther!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!????????????????)
Anyway heres to a better 2008 for Barca and that they claw back against Madrid and come second in the Champions League (runners up to Arsenal, sorry, they are my true love in London lol
)
Have a great new year people!!
