Gamper Preview And Wednesday’s News

August 29th, 2007 by Nic · 1 Comment

Barça take on Inter Milan at Camp Nou tonight in this year’s Joan Gamper match. The pre-match celebrations have been cancelled as a mark of respect for Antonio Puerta, and 10% of the game’s revenue will go to heart research. Traditionally this a game which gives the crowd a chance to see the new summer signings so expect to see Henry, Abidal, Touré and Milito all in the starting line-up.

Inter unfortunately have left half of their first team in Italy, so there will be no chance to see -or throw things at- Luis Figo. Ibrahimovic, Zanetti, Stankovic, Suazo and Julio Cruz have all also been left behind so the only big names appearing for Inter tonight are Adriano and Recoba.

Other News:

Giovani dos Santos has completed his Spanish citizenship today and will no longer occupy a non-EU place.

Bojan Krkic scored twice for Spain against North Korea in the under-17 World Cup, helping them to a place in the quarter final.

Jesus Olmo has signed for Racing Ferrol who play in the second division. Barça have an option to resign the defender next summer for the same price.

Barça have reportedly agreed a price with Atletico Madrid for the transfer of Thiaggo Motta. Motta who also has offers from Inter and Tottenham will have to make up his mind quickly as the transfer deadline is very close. Let’s hope he chooses wisely.

When I was a child, this match was a party, a big celebration. After, it was important for tourists. Last years, latin people was very happy if the opponent was a south American team. This year, perhaps it will be more sad because all the supporters will remember Puerta.
But I propose a new matter for this forum: histories and news about the life of Mr. Nicolau Casaus. I think he is an important character of the life of Barça and their public image. He was a factor of diplomacy in a critical moments. At past, Barça had a lot of internal fights. Barça reflected another social conflicts of Catalonia. In this situation, Mr Casaus was a referee with special authority.
