Henry With Last Minute Winner

July 26th, 2007 by Nic · 3 Comments

Thierry Henry scored his first goal for Football Club Barcelona in a 0-1 win over Dundee United at Tannadice. In the 90th minute of the game Giovani dos Santos was fouled in the penalty area, Henry’s spot kick was saved by the keeper but he scored from the rebound. There was also a good debut performance from Toure Yaya.

Unfortunately I was unable to see the game so I would very much appreciate any comments on the game. You could write a complete report if you like!

FC Barcelona: Valdés (Jorquera, 46′); Zambrotta (Belletti, 46′), Oleguer, Thuram, Sylvinho (Abidal, 46′); Touré Yaya (Motta, 63′), Iniesta (Crosas, 76′), Xavi (Deco, 46′); Ronaldinho (Giovani, 46′), Eto’o (Bojan, 46′), Ezquerro (Henry, 46′).

The first half I thought, saw more scoring opportunities but Esquerro was unable to put a few away. Yaya looked pretty, as did Xavi and Iniesta. Eto’o and Ronnie were decent. Not bad for the first game.

The 2nd half looked a little more disorganized, but it was exciting to see Henry play with Giovani, and Bojan. Bojan and Gio had some nice individual plays…these guys don’t look their age. Towards the end of the game, Giovani went on a run and was fouled in the box. Henry took the penalty, but was blocked. He quickly jumped on the rebound and decided the game. Shortly after DundeeU almost tied it, but Belletti headed the ball out just before it crossed the goal. It was actually a really nice play as Belletti was under the cross bar when he got his head to it.

Apparently Bojan connected well with Henry. Dos Santos was unimpressive and a bit too greedy, didn’t connect well with Henry either. Eto’o was decent and had a high work rate, as usual. Ezquerro , though I wonder why he was being played, was pretty decent in the first half. Jorquera was a joke and must not be relied on. EVER. Thuram looked slow. So did Ronnie. The midfield was overall pretty good, though why Motta was played i don’t know. That too before Crosas. Abidal was good in defense nothing much at attack. Belleti made a heroic save.
