Barça’s doctors have confirmed that Rafa Marquez will miss the next month due to a torn soleus muscle in his right leg. This is the flat muscle at the back of the leg below the calf muscle. There was better news for Carles Puyol who only suffered a strain to his calf muscle and should be alright to play against Atletico Madrid on Sunday.
Marquez joins Samuel Eto’o, Toure Yaya, Edmilson, Milito and Gianluca Zambrotta on the injured list. There will be a problem in midfield if anyone else gets injured as Rijkaard has only Xavi, Deco, Iniesta and youngster Marc Crosas as natural midfielders who are fit.
