Just hours before the transfer deadline, Thiaggo Motta has agreed to sign for Atletico Madrid for one season. This ends a summer of transfer speculation as it was made clear to him that he was not wanted at Barça.

I remember when Motta first got into the team when Charly Rexach was coach. He looked like he would become a great player and over the years I have defended him many times in arguments with fellow fans. In the end my patience ran out as Motta failed to reach his potential, the coaches also lost confidence in him and decided they no longer needed him.

Motta is still only 24 and has time to turn his career around. He played six seasons for Barça playing 96 league games in which he scored six goals. He also played 38 times for Barça in European competitions scoring three goals.
