Norman Foster To Design New Camp Nou

September 18th, 2007 by Nic · 5 Comments

The remodelation of Camp Nou will be the work of Norman Foster. Foster, whose work includes the new Wembley stadium, has had his design chosen from a shortlist of ten proposals. The design will be revealed before Saturday’s home game against Sevilla, but Barça sources say it will be nothing like Wembley. The capacity of the ground will increase from 98,000 to 104,000. The full project will be ready in ten to twelve months’ time and building will begin at the start of 2009. It is estimated that the project will cost around €250million. The Mini Estadi will be pulled down as part of the project, and the club intend to build apartments in its place.

Im very lucky that I know a guy who is senior at foster + partners and he showed me the photos of what the stadium will look like when its finished and I don’t mind telling u all! and u will see on Saturday that Im right as well!

the design is to build a “skin” around the outside of the stadium creating a whole new outside area and in the space between to put shops, bars etc and build a roof as well all the way around the stadium rom the outside theya re going to put huge coloured glass in red, yellow, maroon etc (catalan and barcelona colours) all the way around the stadium that can be tilted so when there is a match these glass things are going to be moved and project this multicoloured light around the stadium.

It looks really cool and I am sure you will all love it when you see it!

The official website says the following:

” The model that the Norman Foster + Partners architects used to explain their proposal will be available for viewing by members on Monday as part of the Camp Nou’s 50th anniversary exhibition. An open doors session will be held all day so that people can get all the details they need. But a general outline of the features of the new stadium will be revealed as part of the build-up to the game between Barça and Sevilla. That will be on Saturday 21, when the game kicks off at 21.00. ”

Please note that the game kicks off at 22.00 local time.
