Regular readers will know I’m not one to do too many transfer rumours, we all know that some newspapers and websites will print anything for the sake of selling more. Sometimes, of course, players are just being polite when journalists ask them if they would like to play for such-and-such a team one day. In the case of Didier Drogba it is clear that he is looking to leave Chelsea. Keep reading →

Frank Rijkaard has only fifteen first team players available after Deco and Sylvinho dropped out today. Deco took a knock on the ankle playing for Portugal on Wednesday and Sylvinho has a muscle strain in his right leg. They join Toure, Eto’o, Bojan, Zambrotta, Puyol, Ezquerro and Jorquera on the absentee list. Three players from Barça B (all called Victor!) have been called up to complete the 18-man squad. It was not to be for Ivory Coast and Toure Yaya who were soundly beaten by Egypt in tonight’s second semi final in Kumasi. Egypt will now face Samuel Eto’o and Cameroon who they already beat 4-2 in the first game of the group stage. Frank Rijkaard’s job has become that little bit more difficult with the news that neither Zambrotta nor Bojan will be fit for Saturday’s tough match at Sevilla. Zambrotta suffered an injury to his middle adductor muscle in his right leg in Italy’s 3-1 victory over Portugal and is likely to be out for a week. Bojan has been set a special treatment programme to help him recover from his gastroenteritis and he is expected to rejoin the group for training next week. Keep reading →

Not the best news for Barça today as the yellow card that Dani Alves received in Sevilla’s win at Recreativo has been overturned by our friends at the Real Federación Española de Fútbol. The card would have meant Alves missing Saturday’s clash with Barça; however, Sevilla’s appeal was successful. Keep reading →
