Thirteen Players On International Duty

With yet another annoying international break Frank Rijkaard finds himself without thirteen players who have all been called up by their respective national teams. Rijkaard will therefore have very little time to prepare the game away to Villarreal on Saturday 20th October. Stoichkov Sacked

Barça 3 Atletico Madrid 0

Football Club Barcelona sealed their sixth win in a row with a 3-0 win over Atletico Madrid this afternoon with goals from Deco, Messi and Xavi. Barça-Atletico Madrid Preview

Eto’o And Toure No Longer Non-EU Players

Samuel Eto’o and Toure Yaya will no longer occupy places as non-European Union players after the Spanish Football Federation took the decision to accept an agreement signed in 2000 between the European Union and African, Caribbean and Pacific states which affects the players of 77 states. Messi, Ronaldinho And Puyol In World XI

FIFPro (Fédération Internationale des Footballeurs Professionels) have named Leo Messi, Ronaldinho and Carles Puyol  in their World XI. The organization who number 57,500 members around the globe chose Milan’s Kaka as their Player Of The Year. With three players chosen Barça were the team with most representatives. This is a highly valued award by the players as it is their fellow professionals who vote for them.

Eto’o In Traffic Accident

Samuel Eto’o was involved in a minor traffic accident this afternoon. The player was driving his car into a parking zone in Barcelona when his car hit a passing motorbike. The motorbike was being driven by a 20-year-old woman who suffered a fractured collarbone, while Eto’o was unhurt. Keep reading →

Marquez Will Be Out For A Month

Barça’s doctors have confirmed that Rafa Marquez will miss the next month due to a torn soleus muscle in his right leg. This is the flat muscle at the back of the leg below the calf muscle. There was better news for Carles Puyol who only suffered a strain to his calf muscle and should be alright to play against Atletico Madrid on Sunday. Keep reading →

I couldn’t resist taking this photo from Manel Montilla for El Mundo Deportivo. Ronaldinho said he would respond on the pitch, and while he didn’t have his greatest game he showed touches of his class. From the picture I think we can see he was certainly keen to get back into the fray.
