Rangers Fans Having Fun

November 6th, 2007 by Nic · 11 Comments

Plenty of Rangers fans are already on the streets of Barcelona, mainly on the Ramblas and in Plaça Catalunya. I did see one guy looking lost on his own uptown on Diagonal, but he had plenty of time to find his mates. It never ceases to amaze me how the British fans that come here at this time of year behave as if it is the middle of summer. The funniest I remember was the Newcastle fans a few years ago who came in December when it was raining and only about 10ºC, they still walked around with their shirts off. Bravo to the chap in the picture, I hope his shoes have dried out.

I find it weird that Celtc fans are more interested in our news than their own.

The Spanish (and especially Catalonian) press were rightly indignant about the behaviour of the orangist louts in Barna. Vomiting and pissing all over the place, including on momuments to certain illustrious locals, is not considered decent social behaviour here, strange as this may seem to an inhabitant of Brigton or the Shankhill Road.

The only thing that niggles me is that the local press call them “escoceses”. I certainly don’t consider them to be my compatriots with their butcher’s aprons and sectarian chants.

    Animals.

To Spanish Hibbee. We at Rangers are Proud to be Scottish and British not like our plastic paddies over in the East. Who I see tried their damnedest to antogonise the Rangers fans in the Nou Camp. Why have Irish Flags and Our Day Will Come displays. They only done that for one thing, to antagonise the Rangers fans. We have rose above that now. Have all the Plastic Paddie displays you want. We are Proud to be Scottish, British people. Our flag is not the butchers apron as your refer to it. Who’s ( being sectarian now? Celtc, Britain’s shame” They don’t even consider themselves Scottish they are that bigoted. Who causes the division in Scotland/ Britain from the age of 5? Yes the Roman Kathlic Church. They want separate schooling to breed the hate towards us PROTESTANTS. No Surrender and don’t forget it.

    Dear Concerned Ranger,

You are swimming against the flow of the tide - doubly!

Firstly with your obsession on seeing Scotland through a religiously-tainted prism. Approximately one in ten Scots attend ANY place of worship on a regular basis (the exception being the Muslims, who have the highest attendance record). This why this insistence on being PROTESTANT (your capitals) is, at best, anachronistic. When this is accompanied by all the paraphernalia imported from the North of Ireland (huge drums, silly hats, white gloves, ribbons, etc.), it is simply ridiculous. Religion reduced to a series of quaint folk rites and devoid of the slightest vestige of spirituality.

And when these inherited prejudices lead you to wave union flags and sing the praises of an unelected head of state in order to preserve for posterity the Faith that you pay lip-service to, this behaviour is approaching neurotic mass hysteria.

(Though why this should result in anti-social practices such as those displayed in Barcelona is one for the socioligists!)

Wake up and smell the 21st-century coffee!

Scotland will soon be a nation once again.

    The Union is dead.

    Religion is irrelevant …

… as are the rest of the dinosaurs!

thanks to all the people of barcelona for a great time WE ARE THE PEOPLE

look its well documented that rangers fans carry the torch of their english hooligan counterparts when they go overseas. anyway thats not why i came on here. im from a proud nationalist irish family. (whom i believe to be the proudest people in the world). ive tried and tried and tried to, but i cant even begin to understand how people (particularly those in NI) can be satisfied under someone elses rule. its simple things like spending money with someone elses queens head on it, having another countries national anthem as your own. where is the pride people? where is the identity? erin go brath!
