According to the Uefa webpage Frank Rijkaard has received a two-match ban for his sending off in Lyon - http://www.uefa.com/uefa/keytopics/kind=512/newsid=639265.html?cid=rssfeed&att=uefa/index Rijkaard already missed one match against Stuttgart so this means he will miss the first leg of the last 16 tie in February. Barça will know their opponents for this on Friday when the draw is made.
Rijkaard was sent off for protesting a refereeing decision, the Uefa bans are very strict and Rijkaard will not be allowed to communicate with the players in the dressing room before the match or at half time, he will not be allowed to communicate with the bench via mobile phone either. Johan Neeskens will be in charge of the team in Rijkaard’s place.
I have to say that a two-match ban seems a bit harsh for a protesting a decision. Did Rijkaard question the ref’s parentage or push any of the officials? We’ll probably never know, but the TV images at the time didn’t show anything that seemed worthy of two matches. I wonder how Arsene Wenger gets treated as he refused to go to the stands when he was sent off at Sevilla in the same week and publically called the referee naive - http://football.guardian.co.uk/championsleague200708/story/0,,2218737,00.html
