Members of the press presented Frank Rijkaard with a t-shirt today with the message “Mai fumaràs sol” (You’ll never smoke alone) I’m not quite sure of the origin of this phrase but there has been a banner seen at various games this season bearing the legend. I have no idea if there is any truth to the rumour that he smokes marijuana, it is probably just the invention of someone due to the fact Frank is Dutch and sometimes appears to have bloodshot eyes. Whatever the case, an emotional Rijkaard accepted the t-shirt saying that it was a shame that he had given up smoking a few days ago. At least he will have a bit less stress in his life now.

I think it is because he is a life long smoker and has recently tried to quit (maybe?)
At least, That is what he said in his last press conference.
I say last, because he has officially sworn them off and is now delegating appearances.

Frank is a notorious pot smoker, along with a lot of guys from the Ajax team. He always as been, and never given it up. It’s pretty much common knowledge that he often did his press conferences while being stoned. That is why he would often go off on tangents about how good the ice cream at Lake Como is, and such things.

I think it’s also a reference to Liverpool’s anthem of “you’ll never walk alone” but they changed it with “smoke.”
