Ronaldinho To Manchester City?

April 7th, 2008 by Nic · 45 Comments

According to today’s Guardian Ronaldinho’s brother and agent Roberto de Assis was seen at Manchester City’s ground before Saturday’s game with Chelsea. He is supposedly negotiating a possible transfer of Ronaldinho to the English club. The report says that City’s owner Thai millionaire Thaksin Shinawatra would be more than happy to pay Ronaldinho wages of over €125,000 a week.

This is not the first time Ronaldinho’s brother has been said to be negotiating a move. Last August he reportedly met Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich, and just last week he was photographed in Milan with representatives of AC Milan. Whatever the case, it looks like we are nearing the end of Ronaldinho’s era at Barça. This could turn out to be the best thing for both club and player as continuing reports about the player’s erratic personal life may well be part of the reason for reported problems with dressing room unity.

  • BARCA 4 LYF // Apr 7, 2008 at 13:55

RONNIE IS THE BEST THING THAT HAPPENED 4 BARCA WHETHER HTIS STORY IS BULLSHIT OR TRUE EVEN IF HE LEAVES HE’LL BE REMEMBERED BY ALL THE TRUE FUKIN BLAUGRANA FANS OUT THERE! BARCA 4 LYF! I HOPE R10 DON’T LEAVE BUT IF HE DOES DIEGO FROM WERDER BREMEN IS THE BEST REPLACEMENT! BUT I HAVE ALSO HEARD THAT TXIXI BEGIRISTAIN SAID THERE HAS BEEN NO CONTACT FROM AC MILAN OR INTER OR MAN CITY! SO IF R10′S STAYIN THAT’S FOR THE BEST COS NEXT SEASON HE’LL BE KICKIN SOME MADRID ASS!

  • Angus // Apr 7, 2008 at 13:55

Man City? I could just see him in the Inter toto cup. What a load of rubbish!

It’s Milan or Chelsea for Ron.

As for who plays in the position when he goes I think they would need to invest in someone. Ben Arfa at Lyon is a good prospect on the left.

  • BARCA 4 LYF // Apr 7, 2008 at 13:57

RONNIE IS THE BEST THING THAT HAPPENED 4 BARCA WHETHER HTIS STORY IS BULLSHIT OR TRUE. SORRY WHEN I WROTE HTIS I MEANT TO TYPE “THIS”. JUST A SPELLING MISTAKE!

  • Shahenshah // Apr 7, 2008 at 14:48

lol Damn B4L, you seem a bit unnerved by this article.

  • Winterhunt // Apr 7, 2008 at 15:37

B4L We all love Ronnie, but Ronnie is like a bad ex-girlfriend who doesn’t love you back, we keep remembering the good times from a couple of years back and hoping they’ll return but she has other priorities ie, nightlife, drinking, dancing, finding a rich guy to support her lifestyle…. He’s not coming back to what he was to kick Real butt or anyone’s butt…. We all thought that last year, and made excuses for him, too many matches, World Cup, needs rest etc, and this year he showed up even less… He doesn’t love you anymore, buddy, get on with your life…. I for one hope he ends up in Man City, where the owner dying to make a splash will shell out a huge transfer fee which we can use to buy several players, and Ronnie will be stuck in cold, dreary Manchester on a middle of a table team that if it is lucky will scrape into the Uefa Cup, and then maybe he will realize how good he had it at Barca in the sun, by the sea, beloved in the Blaugrana, winning trophies….. but there he can be with his and his brother’s true love money…. It’s not a question of us stopping loving him, but him stopping loving us, or even caring….. That is the rift between him and Sammy because Sammy always cares…. The strain on the team to constantly have to answer questions about him, and defend him out of respect, must be unreal and obviously distracting….. You can’t turn the clock back, my man, and you can’t make someone care about something they no longer care about…… It is time to turn the page…. We’ll always love him, but he has been as good as gone for well over a year now…. I really hope this is true though my guess is it’s not…. If it is, let’s get the money, Sell Henry to Paul Allen’s team in Seattle (keep Gio…. the one positive yesterday), add the transfer fees of those two to the 100m we already have set aside, get Diego, Garay, Alves & Benzema (Hell we can even overpay for all those guys and still have money left over, if the numbers they are throwing around for Ronnie & Henry are even close to reality) and Mourinho to bring some order to this circus, and if all of that went down, I can GUARANTEE you we Would then DEFINATELY kick Real’s butt next year and for years to come….. As for our Ex Ronnie, I wish him well under the rainy, overcast Manchester skies and in the beer soaked pubs of Manchester, maybe he can work on his darts and appreciation of pints of Lager with a couple of pasty, overwight English birds on his arm, since he fancies himself such a ladies man…… Good riddance to bad habits

  • Frede // Apr 7, 2008 at 15:50

I hear you, Winterhunt (except from the Mourinho-thing..). I hope this story is true - we’ve seen the best from Ronnie, and it’s time for him (and us) to move on. He’s not worth the sky skraping wages, he is receiving at the moment.
My only fear is: Who could replace him? Is there a world class player, who can play that particular position?? I can’t see him at the moment, so please write down some names for me…

  • Angus // Apr 7, 2008 at 15:53

Benzema won’t come. Diego is a maybe and I’d hope to see Garay and Alves at the Camp Nou next season.

The defence is still strong it’s goalscoring we’re lacking. We need to bring in a left sided player if/when Ronnie goes and someone who can back up Eto’o.

  • Hilal // Apr 7, 2008 at 16:04

lol….winterhunt….the last bit with the overweight English birds is priceless! Ronnie is finished at Barca, lets get the most money we can from selling him and buy some players with a bit more desire. Alves, Capel, Garay, Alonso and Modric. I would say Diego but I think he is going to Real. Benzema I think will stay at Lyon for another season and then maybe. We do not need much more up front though to be honest. We need a good creative mid like Diego or Modric, we need cover for Yaya (Alonso) and we need some good defenders; Alves, Garay and maybe Lucio. We could also use a REAL winger like Capel to give us a bit of variety down the flanks.

  • Angus // Apr 7, 2008 at 16:11

You would replace Deco with either Diego who will most likely rejoin Robinho, van der vaart who will almost certainly leave Hamburg. Samir Nasri could also be an option. Capel is a good shout but he spends more time rolling on the turf than playing on it.

    Garay
    Dani Alves
    Albelda
    Attacking midfielder
    Back up striker

  • Winterhunt // Apr 7, 2008 at 16:35

If we are flush with cash at the moment, Laporta said 100m to spend, and then add another 40-60 for Ronnie’s transfer fee, and maybe 10-20 for Henry, that is an awful lot of money…. Considering Real had to borrow money from the bank last week, I think if we wanted to we could outbid them on Diego if we chose to…… As far as Benzema, it has been widely reported that Barca is his favorite team, and that he has been takiing classes to learn Castillian, this was confirmed by Crosas in several interviews, he signed an extension with Lyon but who knows if that wasn’t agreed to by us, we have a very god relationship with them, we just got Abidal from them….. in the end if we have that kind of money we can get several quality players….. A far as someone playing Ronnie’s position, he hasn’t played it for nearly a year and a half….. I’m sure we can find someone who will at least show up……. my ideal would be Benzema to replace Henry, Alves, Garay, Diego…. w should be easily able to get that done for 100/150 m if we really wanted to splurge…… Anyway that is fantasy football on my part….. but it is all doable……

  • Hilal // Apr 7, 2008 at 16:41

Now wouldnt that be nice Winterhunt. Benzema and Diego would both be worth every penny because they are young, hungry and both want to win everything. Alves would be an incredible buy as well, Alves and Messi combining down the right would be devastating! I really like the idea of Garay as well but Rijkaard might have already ruined that one for us! It is all doable as you say, but I dunno, i think ALL of them would be a stretch. I think either Diego or Benzema but prob not both, maybe all the others though. First and foremost we need a new manager…..

  • Shahenshah // Apr 7, 2008 at 17:14

I am gonna say that has to be one ugly girlfriend. One that sleeps around and gives the whole team syphilis.

  • blaugranaboy // Apr 7, 2008 at 18:54

great post winterhunt. cracked me up, but it was oh so true. frankly he has shown the club massive direspect, its not impressive. im pretty sure he will choose milan. concerning transfers, i think we will get alves. diego has been my choice for over a year now, i can see him fitting perfectly. modric i havent seen enough to judge, only heard of his talents. benzema had a 60 million price tag last time Man U were interseted, thats outrageous. drogba is a solid option. as for a winger, we may want to re look at quaresma. just assure him he will start and that kid is brilliant. him left, etoo middle, messi right sounds perfect. we also need a midfielder and defender.

  • Frede // Apr 7, 2008 at 18:58

Excuse me for one moment.. What’s up with the talk about Modric and Diego? Don’t we have enough in Iniesta and Xavi? Maybe Modric would be a good sub, but I don’t think a guy like Diego would accept that type of role..
So if Deco, as i expekt, leaves in the summer, then yes, Modric is welcome - Diego would just causs more brazilian chaos.

Am i totally wrong on this one?

Schalke 04 are a decent side so don’t write them off. Its a huge game on Wednesday and I really hope the players perform a lot better than on Sunday. Schalke tore Barcelona apart in the second half, they are a decent side and pose a real threat.

Barca4Lyf, wise up and actually watch the games, then comment. Barcelona kicked no ones a**e in Gelsenkirchen. We were lucky to come out with a win. In the current climate I would take a 1-0 win on Wednesday and look forward to attempting to get the points from Recretivo on Saturday which may put a little pressure on Real.

  • Blaugrana // Apr 8, 2008 at 2:53

If real win 4 games its over,we cn only get a max of 80pnts naw and it’ll drop if we draw/loze any upcuming matchez,

Ronnie’s bro has that real slicked up, scheister look, down pat…. Probably teach that in agent school….. Collar up, hair gelled, giving the hipster pseudo surfer handshake…. “Your Aces Babe, Don’t change a thing, Kid. I don’t think you’re properly appreciated by your current team, They don’t know what they have in you, let me make some calls, have my people talk to their people, set up a conference call……”

  • El // Apr 8, 2008 at 5:05

I am sure that Laporta won’t sell Ronni. It will just crush his financial situation too.. there are thousands and thousands of people who joined to support Barca only for Ronni, mass media also receive a lot of revenues by publishing news about him that are watched much more often than ordinary club news. Barca is known so much because of him, and when he will go, Barca’s profile will change inevitable.

People believe in his magic and so do I. And we all see how team suffers from the lack of the creativity without him and Messi. Therefore, I am sure that no Modrich or any else can substitute Ronni in the way that will give back creativity to this team as Ronni does. I think we need to give him time, recently he really developed his performance if it were not so many injures…

  • BARCA 4 LYF // Apr 8, 2008 at 9:52

Angus mate I watch matches but we did kick their asses in the first half didn’t we? We dominated in the first 45 min but in the second half they did! But a win is a win!

  • Angus // Apr 8, 2008 at 10:10

El Mundo Deportivo reports “30 Million Euros for Alves”

“Barcelona could have already reached an agreement with Seville for the next season.

It is also reported that Barcelona were offering Giovani as part of the deal but Sevilla will only accept a cash deal. Sevilla also ruled out the sale of Navas and Capel.

Real are expected to bid for Alves but he’s said to prefer the Barcelona style of play and would only move to Barcelona from Sevilla.

This is quote from the interview of his brother:

“De Assis, who owns a second division club in Brazil, told Spanish magazine Don Balon: “My work is connected with the world of football and it is usual for me to travel and talk about personal matters when I think it is necessary.

“Ronaldinho has a contract until 2010 and I am not looking for anything.”

Ronaldinho has started just 13 of his side’s 31 Liga games this season after suffering from a string of minor injuries and fitness problems over the last 12 months. Last week he was ruled out for the rest of the campaign with a torn muscle.

“Ronaldinho is a little down at present. He has spent five weeks having specific treatment for a problem and now this has happened,” De Assis added.

“What hurts him most is not being able to help his team mates at an important time.”

When asked if he thought Ronaldinho may have played his last game for Barcelona, his brother replied: “It’s a little early to say that.

“I hope he can be playing again soon. I think a player who has been in the hearts of Barca fans and this group of players deserves to leave on a high.

“Decisions need to be taken calmly at the right time, not in the heat of the moment or in difficult times.”

Fabregas calls Madrid his “Dream Team”. Interesting.

  • BARCA 4 LYF // Apr 8, 2008 at 17:17

Jay he said if he had to leave Arsenal he would go to Barca, AC Milan or shitty Madrid! He never said Madrid is his dream team!

  • Shahenshah // Apr 8, 2008 at 17:48

wow i will lose all respect for him if he goes to Madrid after all Barcelona has done for him.

  • Jay // Apr 8, 2008 at 18:44

Yeah Shahenshah. Anyway, a lot of respect is lost. The guy keeps speaking more than occassionally about his “love” for Madrid. Especially when he responds to press questions with the cliched Who-wouldn’t-like-to-play-for-Madrid answer.

Can’t believe he once wore Barca colours. I would name him in the traitor list which already features distinguished illuminaries like Luis Figo and Javier Saviola.

    @Barca 4 Lyf
It basically means the same, dude. He has 4 dream teams.

  • Shahenshah // Apr 8, 2008 at 18:48

lol and lets not forget schuster and laudrup. All for the sake of money. Disgraceful. Atleast Cruyiff had some decency in him.

  • Joe Henry // Apr 8, 2008 at 20:18

    @ Jay.
No offense but i think its smart. He can’t come on national press and say Yak you wants to play for Madrid GO BARCA ! Its a smart move if one wired day he has to play for Madrid to keep his job as a football player he didn’t say any thing bad and as for us as Barca fans what did he really say who wouldn’t want to play for Real Madrid ? Nothing too personal its just he is walking of the safe side. You must understand this is his job. I feel that Saviola is more of a traitor then Fabregas. And btw he could be doing all this to let Barca know i want more money or something, Like be careful I could sign to Madrid and get more money so pay me more money. I don’t know but i think he will never leave Arsenal as there biggest star to sign to Madrid. Either way we cant really judge we did throw him out to the cold didn’t we ( I don’t really remember what happed then ).

  • Shahenshah // Apr 8, 2008 at 21:50

The old french fairy from london kidnapped him, thats what happened. Always had a thing for poaching young boys.

  • e10 // Apr 9, 2008 at 8:49

Wherever ‘Ronnie’ goes he is making a very big mistake.
The right place/home for Ronnie is Barca, the board should seriously re-consider the sale of their dominant player as they would be making the biggest mistake in the club’s history.
All Ronnie needs is full support by his peers and he will get back to the Ronnie we know.

I think Barca should see what happens with Ronnie next season if the same situation is in place then Ronnie’s time is up and that’s the time Barca should sell him.

The fans are against him right now, this is because after what they seen of Ronnie over the past couple of years they are so expectant and want a dazzling performance every game, which hasnt happened this season.

Keep Ronnie & Rijkard and re-shuffle the defence as it needs serious investment.
& please get rid of Henry as he has nothing to offer, Wenger played Barca nice. Wenger got everything out of Henry and when he had noticed that Henry’s performances were falling and youngsters at Arsenal were growing dramatically Wenger let him go. Nice game.

PLZZZZZ stay RONNIE. u are the heart and soul of BARCA.

  • Rafael // Apr 9, 2008 at 9:30

I agree with the fellow who stated that Ronaldinho does bring more revenue to put it bluntly - to the Nou Camp..

People still chant his name, admist the form of Messi, Eto’o etc.. Lets face it Ronaldinho is a huge part of Barcelona, just as big as the rest of the squad. I still keep his lack of form to middle-upper management - there are things going on behind the scenes.

I can’t imagine him in any other colors than red and white and yellow and blue. I hope we don’t sell him or Rijkaard, because Ronnie @ 28 has still a lot too offer. R10, Messi, Eto’o and Henry and an up coming Bojan - what club in the world can bolster that quality of front line?

Another thing to remember is the amount of media hype.

Let is encourage Ronaldinho, hope he stays and brings more and more success to the Nou Camp.
