Villarreal-Barça Preview

October 19th, 2007 by Nic · No Comments

Finally, Ronaldinho will definitely not play in tomorrow evening’s game at El Madrigal. Ronnie turned up at Camp Nou this afternoon and wanted to be included in the squad for the game, but Frank Rijkaard has considered it better for him to rest for Tuesday’s match in Glasgow.

This will give a chance to Bojan Krkic or Giovani dos Santos to appear in the starting line-up. Bojan may get the nod from Rijkaard as he has not had a midweek game whereas Giovani played 45 minutes in Mexico’s game with Guatemala.

Villarreal  were the last team to beat Barça when they won 2-0 in the corresponding league fixture back in April with goals from Robert Pires and Marcos. Tomorrow Pires will face his old Arsenal team mate Thierry Henry for the first time in La Liga. Villarreal are currently third in the league just two points behind Barça, the good news for Barça is that Villarreal’s top scorer Giuseppe Rossi will miss the game through suspension.

Barça are still without Zambrotta, Toure, Marquez, Eto’o and Edmilson who are all injured so apart from the change for Ronaldinho the team should be the same as for the last game with Atletico Madrid.

I expect this will be a very difficult game, let’s hope Messi can continue with his excellent form, and if Bojan plays it would be great for him to get a goal.

Barça’s probable starting XI: Valdés; Oleguer, Puyol, Milito, Abidal; Xavi, Iniesta, Deco; Messi, Bojan, Henry.

My Prediction: Villarreal 1 Barça 1
