Wenger To Barça?

February 13th, 2008 by Nic · 27 Comments

After yesterday’s story about Cesc Fabregas the Catalan press have decided to really annoy Arsenal fans by running a story today saying Barça are interested in bringing Arsene Wenger to Camp Nou as a replacement for Frank Rijkaard. As I said yesterday, the papers need to write something and this week there is no midweek match. The Barcelona sports papers write something like 16 pages a day on Barça and they have to fill those pages with anything they can find.

The English press are not much better, The Daily Telegraph, Sky Sports, Tribalfootball and Goal.com have all run the story on their websites. Perhaps, there is some interest at Barça, the same as there is for Mourinho, but it is quite normal for football clubs to be constantly assessing their future possibilities. Personally I’m not crazy about the idea of either Mourinho or Wenger, but as long as Barça’s rocky form continues, the rumours will keep coming.

dont ever2 think that Barcelona got the our Wenger..

  • Dubs // Feb 13, 2008 at 14:59

    That ’story’ is untrue.

The real news is that Messi wants to leave the failing, crisis ridden Camp Nou and will be signing for Arsenal in June.

Oh, silly Barca press. Wenger isn’t going anywhere, of course. It just reflects badly on Barca & their environment. It’s like Average Joe declaring in big newspaper adverts that he is going to marry Giselle Bundchen (or pick your super model of choice here). When will they learn… ?!?

You won’t believe this.. but it is true. Messi wants to sign for Arsenal this summer!

I have this from a source inside Barca. And a friend of my uncle, who is an Emirates season-ticket holder, said he was spotte recently in a Box at the Emiratesm watching Arsenal..

I hope the club wakes up. We can’t loose Messi to Arsenal!

  • Hilal // Feb 13, 2008 at 15:44

Funny I remember all the arsenal fans saying exactly the same things about Henry when those “rumors” started.

  • Nic // Feb 13, 2008 at 15:53

So what if Messi went to see an Arsenal game? Fabregas was recently at a Barça game, it doesn’t mean anything. Messi is under contract and Arsenal would have to fork out €150million if they wanted him. Get real people.

  • pep // Feb 13, 2008 at 15:57

I think we’re starting a rumour here. Tomorrow probably an extensive report on goal.com…

  • fester // Feb 13, 2008 at 15:59

its all rubbish and by the way if wenger did not want henry to go he wouldn’t have gone anyway we dont miss him at all and you should know wenger has signed a new deal and he does not break contracts, and has for you getting cesc theres a chance and no chance and chance just left town, and has for messi i bet he would love to play for arsenal great play young players not old ageing players past there sell by date.

  • ab // Feb 13, 2008 at 16:20

Well, if Messi wants to play under Wenger, he needs to move to Arsenal…

  • phil // Feb 13, 2008 at 16:27

Ha ha ha ha stop it now as soon as tribal football (small caps intended) was mentioned your credibility went out the window. You guys really are dim to say the least. Pffffttttttt!

  • Blaugrana // Feb 13, 2008 at 17:38

    MESSI AINT GOING ANYWHERE!!!! Jiz

  • Dubs // Feb 13, 2008 at 17:50

Indeed, see how crap rumours start…..

But Messi’s father HAS been looking for family homes in the exclusive Totteridge area of London, close to both Arsenal’s training ground and stadium.

  • Messi > Arsenal // Feb 13, 2008 at 19:18

Messi is on his way to the Emirates. You read it here.

  • Nitin // Feb 13, 2008 at 19:34

Wenger to barca, no way…. more chances of getting hit by lightning…… :)
Messi u never know, i mean mostly he wont and arsenal is the one of richest club in the world right now, so they might fork out what ever is needed to get him. Besides, have u seen arsenal’s form lately, splendid!!! Wenger wont leave the team he made, the team he built.

  • Nic // Feb 13, 2008 at 21:29

Shame the intention of this article went over so many people’s heads. Didn’t you notice the question mark in the title?
phil - if you read carefully just before tribalfootball is mentioned you might get the gist. Dim? Pffffttttt!

It’s like a bunch of 12-year-old kids in here… (and maybe it is?) All we need now is Tony the Irish Canadian spewing out hate. What happened to that bloke?

  • Nitin // Feb 14, 2008 at 2:02

Well to be honest, I donot see Fabregas, Wenger or Messi leaving their respective clubs. And I donot see Fabregas leaving for a measly 7 mil if he actually does wanna leave, Wengers too smart a person to be handling a financial loss in any kind of situation. And for the record, I donot ever see why us Barca fans have to complain about Arsenal stealing “our” Fabregas, I mean, its not like Barca fought for him, it wasnt some covert operation where one night oh theres Cesc, tomorrow, he isnt. Be realistic people. Its not like we never bought anyone from some other club!!!!

  • Varughese // Feb 14, 2008 at 7:11

Messi to Arsenal? It just don’t stop isn’t it?
If he is so interested to move to Arsenal let him, that will give 150m euros i suppose, pay half and get Kaka. Now start that as a rumour.
One thing I am clear - Don’t let Cesc come back(forget how good he is). He made a choice and if you allow him to come back thats set a wrong precedence. think about Bojan and Gio who decided to stay, I believe many English clubs were interested with them also. Cesc anyway will not move out of Arsenal in the near future. But even in the future he should not be allowed to come back. He said his dream was to end his career in a Catalan club, there are many Catalan club left for him to do so, but not Barcelona.

  • Varughese // Feb 14, 2008 at 7:27

How about this: Myself for Barcelona manager

This won’t be that bad, at least it will settle my bills.

  • Goalposthead // Feb 14, 2008 at 14:25

    BELLETTIIIIIIIIIIIII!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Nitin // Feb 14, 2008 at 18:38

varghese cheta, I dont think I necessarily agree with u, I dont think Gio is gonna stay that long to be honest. And it probably isnt like they decided to stay, they might not have had as good offers like Arsenal. Comon, u think any person in Barcelona is ever gonna be happy if cesc does decide to come back and then Laporta just says “NO!”, and very soon we will see a change in presidency. And if u are the Barcelona manager, well, thats when u get a call from Laporta saying “Varughese ichaya…. ur fired!!!!”…… :)

  • Speeka // Feb 16, 2008 at 11:47

Keep him. Beter managers out there than Wenger.

  • African Arsenal Fan // Feb 18, 2008 at 17:07

Greetings from the Gambia. Your site is filled with interesting talking points and is very enjoyable. We need Wenger in Africa. He is the only one who can do it

  • elliot hinks // Mar 18, 2008 at 22:10
