Zaragoza have today announced on their webpage that an agreement has been reached with FC Barcelona for the transfer of Gabi Milto. Barça will pay Zaragoza €17 million for the Argentinian defender with another €3.5 million to be paid for appearances and titles won. Milito will officially sign for four seasons when he returns from the Copa America where he is appearing alongside Leo Messi for Argentina.
I think Milito is an excellent reinforcement for the defence. He signed for Zaragoza four seasons ago after he failed a medical at Real Madrid. I was always very impressed with him and wondered how Madrid could have let him go. He is strong, brave and quick, and now Madrid’s loss is Barça’s gain, at 26 he is at a perfect age to give Barça the best years of his career. I expect him to form a formidable partnership with Carles Puyol.

I think that would be unfair on Marquez. Unless you want Rafa to play as a defensive midfielder, which is also unlikely in the light of Yaya Toure’s arrival.
They could have bought a lesser defender as a back up instead of buying a sure first teamer like Milito. Or, of course, then they would have to sell Marquez.

I know Marquez is playing well in the Copa America but he was rubbish last year for Barça. I hope Marquez can recover his previous form but with Milito now, who is class, I think Barça will benefit a lot in defence.

With Abidal and especially Milito, Rijkaard has his head screwed on. Compare them with the injury-prone Metzelder, and Henry with Saviola (although like most Barca fans I’ve got a soft spot for the rabbit).
I’m watching Marquez in the Copa semi re-run right now, Mexico are having a torrid time with Tevez and especially Messi… can’t wait to see this goal.
I lived in Madrid for two years - and it did nothing to dampen my enthusiasm for the Blaugrana! Marca, As and Telemadrid (although Liga matches on terrestial TV is always good) in particular were biased, and now the only free club TV station in England is para Los Merengues… Still, I suppose Sport and El Mundo Depor are just as bad, and even worse in many instances.
